Live Smaller: Tiny Houses

How tiny are tiny houses? As small as 65 square feet and a maximum of around 800 square feet to be in keeping with it's name. The smallest houses can even be built on a trailer and moved around like an RV (and secured so no one can steal it). :)

These types of houses are getting more popular as people are realizing that bigger is not always better. Is a bigger mortgage better? How about a bigger chore and repair list that takes more time and effort (and causes more stress)? Blah!

There are many types of small houses such as log cabins, eco-houses, yurts (I considered living in one of these years ago), domes, homes that come in kits, and more.

Is living large stressing you out?

It was about two years after we moved into our large home that living a simple life became a priority to us. That's when I began to research voluntary simplicity and "living with less" which led me to tiny house plans and small house floor plans.

I find it often that people don't realize the disadvantages of excess until they have first indulged in it. What they wanted so badly and couldn't be happy without, eventually becomes a burden. And, many people have trouble identifying and admitting it and making positive changes.

With huge houses and the busy, hectic lives that often accommodate them, comes a load of stress that humans were never meant to carry. Many obtain the largest house they can barely afford and suffer for it later (financially, emotionally, and physically - from taking care of it).On the other hand, many cannot afford a large home and so, to some, all this talk about suffering over having a big house seems silly. But, there is such thing as too much to handle.

For people with low incomes (who have room for down-sizing), having a small home and/or doing part or all of the construction yourself, can provide you with a nice home that isn't so much of a drain on your resources.

Open your mind to the possibilities!

Small living is not limited to 100 or 200 square feet. The sky's the limit when it comes to warm, open, and customizable floor plans for smaller homes. The less time and money you have, the more you need to open your mind to the possibilities! :)

It is my dream to own a small home. Not nearly as tiny as 65 square feet, but much smaller than my current 2100 + square foot home. We really don't need so much space. The longer I live in my big house, the bigger it gets!
