Simple living and voluntary simplicity seem to be a movement. It's like a living organism or a refreshing wave that, once entertained, works to progressively invade every area of your life. However, we welcome this surging purging with opens arms! :)

My motivation for simple living was complicated living! I hadn't realized the importance of living a simple life until life became very arduous.

We had experienced a whole host of stressful changes within a few weeks; the effects of which lasted several years. On top of that, I was becoming increasingly aware and repelled by the ways of our culture that were eating and ripping away at our bodies and souls such as greed, debt, consumerism, vanity, perversion, faithlessness, indulgence, stress, selfishness, and the like.

My Dream of Simplicity

I have fantasized about living in a small cabin in the woods near the mountains of Idaho. Winter snow, cool summer nights, fishing for food (and fun), hiking, camping, and self sufficient living.

I have dreamed about living in a small cabin like a re-claimed, antique, American log cabin; originally built by hand in the 1800s from old-growth trees. I have a strong passion and intrigue for the 1800s. It was a slower-paced, more wholesome life. We would literally be living in a piece of history and a "green" home. Now that would awesome! Oh, and my husband is interested, too. ;)

In 2011, we actually made plans to sell our house and travel in an RV (fifth wheel with bunkhouse) for a good, long while and maybe live in for periods of time. We want more FREEDOM in life and less "strings attached."

However, God changed those plans as He directed our steps and moved us to a small city. I still desire to "get back to the land" and all, but now I'm exploring the idea of getting a piece of wooded acreage and building a straw-bale or earth-bag home, and raising a few small livestock like chickens and ducks, and of course, starting a garden.
