Money Saving Ideas

There are so many money saving ideas out there that I hope to provide at least a few that you haven't heard of in a while; along with my own experience, ideas, and tips.

Money Saving Ideas At Home

  • Use Cloth Napkins
  • You don't need to make a big ordeal about washing them, either. I washed mine before the first use because they were purchased in new condition (at a yard sale). After that, I just toss them in with the next load of laundry.

I recommend colored napkins, as it hide stains better in case you don't soak or wash them in time. My four-year-old daughter quickly picked up the habit of color-coding. I encouraged her to use a red napkin when she's eating ketchup or tomatoes, etc. It's fun for her and just generally helps with stain prevention. ;)

  • Assembly Line Method
  • Okay, I just invented that title, but I wanted to give a catchy name to the process by which you use something in a series of actions that causes the most proficient progressive loss of the item's usefulness before needing to be laundered, recycled, or thrown away. Got it?

For example, with a little forethought, a small towel can first be used for a small spill on a sanitary surface, like the kitchen table. Then, dampen it (rinse a little if needed) and use it to do some light dusting. Then heavier dusting. Last, use it one last time for a really messy job, like a big mud spot on the floor or something else that would warrant its final use. This is a small way to conserve, but small money saving ideas add up.

  • Use Foaming Hand Soap Dispenser
  • Use foaming soap dispensers. You can dilute regular liquid soap (about one tablespoon; vary to your liking) or buy the soap made for foam dispensers; then dilute with water. The foam-i-fied soap is easier to spread and fun to use, too!

  • Invest In Laser Hair Removal At Home

  • This can be considered frugal, right? Well, it is if it works! Try quality products that allow you to make an investment. This means paying a higher amount of money upfront with the intention of saving in the long run.

If you're like me and you would rather never shave again, you might want to consider investing in a home laser hair removal product like this one. You can try it risk free. As a matter of fact, I've been using it myself!

Track my treatments & experience using Tria laser hair removal at home.

To me, the greatest reward of permanent hair removal would be to save time, planning ahead, and irritation. (the latter can be said of both my skin and mood) Ha! The best money saving ideas are those that simultaneously save time and energy in addition to money.

Home laser hair removal works just as well for men. But, beware, the results are meant to be permanent! ;)

  • Don't put off starting a vegetable garden

  • Start slowly if you have to get familiar with it. Use whatever space you have. You can start seedlings indoors if right now is not the best time to plant them outside or while you are getting your garden bed ready.

I was taken aback at how simple it was to grow green onions. We would buy them at the grocery store and struggled to use the whole bunch while they were still fresh. One day I threw some rooted tips out in the dirt and within days I had green onion plants sprouting.

We still have them and it's so convenient to just pick off what we need, as we need it. It's good knowing that there are no pesticides and they're totally fresh! When I need some for a meal, I tell my daughter how much and she brings them to me.

There are certain plants that grow well indoors year-round like lettuce, tomatoes, peppers, and even some fruit trees!

Money Saving Ideas: Ways To Use Less Electricity

  • I'm always aware of electricity conservation and savings. During the day, the lights in our home are rarely turned on. It helps that we have a lot of windows, but even with that, on sunny days I find that I don't even want to open the blinds very much.

  • Learn about living off the grid

  • I minimize my use of the clothes dryer by partially drying heavy items before putting them in the dryer for softer, wrinkle-free results. We haven't set ourselves up with a full clothes line, yet, but I do completely air dry some things.

  • Use a clothes drying rack or retractable clothes line to air-dry laundry

  • I leave the central air/unit off as much as possible, which contributes greatly to lowering our electricity bill. When you're home and you can't seem to get the chill out of your bones and you don't want to keep raising the thermostat, there's a fuel you can burn that is completely FREE! This free fuel is called calories.

Do some exercises for a minute or two. Do some push-ups or squats. Work a major muscle area and you will warm up quickly and for free. Or, doing chores like vacuuming or washing dishes in hot water should warm you up within minutes! :)

  • During cold months, we sleep with an extra blanket on top of our regular comforter. This generates enough extra warmth that we have turned our thermostat down five more degrees. The blanket we use is made of 100% Acrylic Pile.
  • We even make a game of it and have a running competition with my parents to see who can come out with a lower electricity bill each month. :) We're still the undefeated champs; though they often come close.

Competition always helps you to work a little harder and do a little better. I challenge you to challenge yourself to use less energy.

Money Saving Ideas On The Go
  • Shop Less (New Items)
  • Challenge yourself to go as long as you "can" without buying any of your most frequently purchased non-essential, new items. How long can you last? Six months, one year, two or more years?

  • Shop More (Used Items)
  • I don't encourage shopping more in itself; just to be more open to buying used items. Most of what I possess was purchased used 250 Free Business Cards at Vistaprint!(if not given as a gift).

You can find many nice, used items for every area of your life. You may have to wait longer to find what suits you, but it's fun and rewarding.

Do you have some really great or unique money saving ideas? Please share them for the benefit of all. We'd really appreciate it. :)
