Christmas Charities
What's great about Christmas charities is that they give you opportunity to give in a more meaningful way; to someone who has varying degrees of need.
Has your gift-giving been more out of obligation and pressure than love and compassion? Do you want your gifts to have a greater impact? Consider giving to people you don't know this year. Giving from the heart and knowing that you are making a difference in someone's life can contribute to
stress free holidays.
Christmas charities offer a wide range of gift-giving opportunities. There's everything from picking out gifts and wrapping them yourself to giving money; which is no small act. Hand of Hope Hand of Hope is part of Joyce Meyer Ministries. Give a gift that can support medical care, feeding programs, and children's homes. It also supports fresh water wells, prison outreach, rescuing girls from the sexual exploitation, disaster relief, reaching the inner city, and sharing the Gospel worldwide. You can purchase a gift in someone's honor and receive a free Christmas ornament and card to pass along as a reminder of this special gift. "The heart of Hand of Hope is simply to help hurting people with everything we do." Angel Tree Angel Tree is a ministry that reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. It seeks to transform the lives of these families and to reconcile them to their Heavenly Father and each other. Many churches and other participating locations decorate a Christmas tree with angel-shaped cards. Each card has a child's information and gift ideas. You take as many angel cards off the tree as you want to buy gifts for. Wrap the gifts, keep them together so they don't get mixed in with other children's gifts, keep the angel card with the gifts, and bring them back to the location where you took the card. Our church makes sure that all children on our tree have been taken care of. My husband and I enjoy buying gifts, according to the child's interests, for such children in our own community. We sometimes are involved in hand-delivering some of the gifts in our neighborhood. Angel Tree is one of our favorite Christmas charities. Operation Christmas Child I love hands-on projects where I can really get a sense and feel for the impact my resources are having on a person's life. With Operation Christmas Child, you buy new items according to a certain age range and gender and fill up a standard-size shoe box as a gift. Then you wrap the box (bottom and lid separately), pray over it, and take it to a place that receives them. It is optional, but I would exhort you to do as they request and place a check inside the shoe box for the requested amount to help with costs. I have given you general instructions for preparing a shoe box, but make sure that you follow their specific instructions and requirements before you go shopping. :) International Mission Board Learn more about the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering. The IMB is near our hearts because we have good friends that were called out of our church to serve as missionaries on the other side of the world. By giving to the IMB, we can be sure that we are directly supporting the mission of our dear friends. Make a Wish Foundation Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. Toys for Tots The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. My Two Front Teeth MyTwoFrontTeeth.org is a nonprofit provider of online services which bring personalization, efficiency and simplicity to the charitable gift-giving efforts of community organizations throughout the country. We enable dozens of charities, day cares, and preschools to accept toy sponsorships online, thereby helping to brighten the holidays for thousands of underprivileged children.
Missions and Outreaches Not only can you give or participate in Christmas charities, but you can also consider joining a local group that plans mission trips or outreaches at Christmas. One year for Christmas, I went with my church group to visit orphans in Mexico with whom we had the pleasure of spending time, playing games, and singing Christmas songs (in English and Spanish). You might expect to find the loneliest, saddest children there, but they actually, for the most part, had joy in their hearts and appreciated us taking time out to visit.
